The marketing department for all metals is based in London.

The proximity of Kazakhstan to China and good infrastructure links to Western Europe, through the ports in the Black Sea and St Petersburg, give easy access to both markets. This allows Kazakhmys to serve two of the largest global markets and to be flexible in its response to customer demand.  Around 80% of our copper is sold under annual supply contracts with a negotiated volume and price premium to the market price at the time of delivery. The remainder is sold on the spot market during the year.

In 2007, around 50% of output was sold to Europe, with continued growth in the Mediterranean markets. The balance was sold to China with increasingly direct relationships with end-user customers. The copper rod production is sold to customers in China and the CIS.

Zinc is sold in the form of concentrate to local buyers and, to a lesser extent, as finished metal. The gold and silver sales are made through annual contracts and are delivered by air through Almaty airport. The silver grain production is sold to European end users and international banks or traders. The gold in bars is sold to international banks or traders. Sales of rhenium in ammonium perrhenate are also delivered by air or from an independent warehouse facility in the Netherlands.
