Ethics

Operating ethically

We are one of the world's leading natural resources groups and among the largest companies in Kazakhstan. As an influential organisation, we take our ethical responsibilities seriously.

Making ethics a priority

Our Board of Directors is responsible for setting strong principles and values. It is also accountable for ensuring our people and operations are ethical.

Every Director must demonstrate honesty and integrity; a willingness to question and challenge; and a desire to commit to the highest standards of governance. Each Director must also ensure that their decisions or actions never put their interests before those of the business.

Eliminating bribery and corruption

We have created an Anti-Bribery and Corruption Steering Group. The group is planning a Group Anti-Bribery and Corruption Programme that will:

  • update arrangements allowing staff to raise concerns about improper behaviour in complete confidence
  • create an anti-bribery and anti-corruption culture across the company
  • set up corruption risk assessments
  • establish practical policies and procedures
  • ensure due diligence of business partners
  • provide training, monitoring and assurance.
Complying with the UK Bribery Act 2010

Our measures will ensure we comply with the forthcoming UK Bribery Act 2010, which received Royal Assent on 8 April 2010. The act will make criminal offences of:

  • bribing another person
  • being bribed
  • bribing foreign officials
  • commercial organisations failing to prevent bribery.

The UK Government has ordered a review of the legislation. We will monitor the results of this review to ensure our Group Anti-Bribery and Corruption Programme reflects the regulations.
