Captive Power
Powering our business
As a fully integrated company, we produce all the captive power our business needs. This provides us with an uninterrupted supply and captures additional margin. Our electricity and heating comes from three coal-fired power and heating plants in the Central and Zhezkazgan Regions. In 2011, the power and heating plants generated 5,578 GWh of electricity.
Coal mines
Our plants run on coal from two captive coal mines in Borly, each with reserves that will last for over 50 years. In 2011, the mines produced 7.6, which we transported to the plants using our own railway system.
