CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

Our employees
Respecting our most valuable resource
With a workforce of around 61,000, Kazakhmys is one of Kazakhstan's largest employers. We are committed to providing all employees with good working conditions and to treating everyone with respect.
Strengthening our employment practices
In 2010 we appointed our first Group Human Resources Director and developed clear human resources priorities. These cover every aspect of people management, including organisational effectiveness, selection and recruitment, and training and development.
Training and development
We invest heavily in training education for all our employees. Our dedicated technical colleges at Satpayev and Balkhash provide vocational technical education, and classroom and operational training. More than 1,800 of our employees also continue to receive further or higher education at colleges in Kazakhstan and abroad. Read more
Investing in new leaders
We are investing in the next generation of company leaders. Our 'Top 100' programme identifies potential future leaders and promotes opportunities for career development.
Paying people fairly
Fair and competitive remuneration is essential for recruiting and retaining a talented workforce. Our Performance and Management System ensures we judge performance fairly and reward employees appropriately.
Attracting young specialists
We have introduced a 'young specialists' grade and Young Specialists Councils at each copper operation to attract, retain and develop young people in engineering careers. Read more
Pensions and other benefits
Kazakhmys contributes to defined contribution pension schemes in Kazakhstan and the UK. Our Copper Division provides free medical and dental services for employees and at less than half price for their families and retirees. The division also funds leisure activities and summer camp holidays for employees' children.
Equality and diversity
We want to provide a fair and diverse workforce that reflects the local population and benefits from its many skills. We are proud that around 35% of employees in our Copper Division are female. Our employee training and leadership programmes build knowledge and skills among employees. This reduces our dependence on labour from abroad.
Communicating with our people
Listening to and communicating with employees encourages a motivated workforce. Our employee communications include team meetings, emails, a companywide newspaper, an intranet site and exit interviews.
