June 30th 2011 - Entering the Hong Kong stock exchange

Completed secondary listing on the HK stock exchange as park of a growing strategic presence is Asia.

 

February 2010 - Strengthening balance sheet

The company completes the sale of a 50% stake in its Ekibastuz GRES-1 power plant to the National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna JSC for $681 million. This was originally set out at the time of purchase in May 2008.

January 2010 - Securing funding of $2.7 billion

Kazakhmys announces a $2.7 billion unsecured loan facility from the China Development Bank Corporation and Joint Stock Company Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna. The funds are available for developing growth plans, particularly the major growth project at Bozshakol.

2008 - Increasing our stake in ENRC

The group acquires further shares in Eurasian Natural Resources PLC (ENRC PLC), raising its total holding to 26%. This exposes Kazakhmys to the success of a bulk natural resources group in Kazakhstan.

May 2008 - Delivering our power for the future

Kazakhmys acquires the Ekibastuz GRES-1 coal-fired power plant, the largest power plant in Kazakhstan. With a $1 billion investment programme, the plant has the potential to double its capacity in 5 years.

October 2007 - Acquiring an initial stake in ENRC

As part of its diversification strategy, the group acquires a 14.6% stake in Eurasian Natural Resources PLC (ENRC PLC). The acquisition gives Kazakhmys the opportunity to profit from the achievements of another natural resources group.

November 2006 - Trading commences in Kazakhstan

As a sign of its commitment to Kazakhstan's development, trading of Kazakhmys shares commences on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange. 

December 2005 - Gaining a place on the FTSE 100

To mark its ever-growing economic strength, Kazakhmys is included in the UK FTSE 100 Index.

October 2005 - Entering the London Stock Exchange

Kazakhmys is listed on the London Stock Exchange at 540 pence per share, joining the broad range of international mining companies listed in London.

June 1995 - A change of ownership

Samsung Corporation of Korea takes over management of the company. In 1996, Samsung acquires a 40% stake and subsequently sells it.

1992 - The company is officially formed

The Government of Kazakhstan forms the company, entitled OJSC Zhezgazgantsvetmet. From 1992 to 2002, a series of privatisations reduce the Government's holding from 100% to 0%.

1971 - New operations begin

Smelting operations commence at the Zhezkazgan Complex.

1930 - The birth of a leading natural resources group

Kazakhmys' operations begin at the Balkhash copper smelting complex in Kazakhstan.
